Attention All Ability Interface Clients:

HAS recently released an electronic claims enhancement to allow agencies using our Ability Interface to not export selected Medicare billing option sets via the interface if desired. Due to this change, clients currently using our Ability Interface may need to adjust their Medicare electronic billing option sets to ensure the Ability option is selected.

If you are expecting claims to be submitted to Ability, after previewing the Medicare claim file you should see the "Submit Claims to Medicare" button:

If the "Mark claims as Submitted" option is appearing instead, a change needs to be made to Locator 9000.15 in the Medicare bill option sets. To make this change:

  • Go to Billing>Electronic Claims and select the Medicare option set.
  • Click on the Options button to access the Billing Options Wizard.
  • Go to Locator 9000.15, select "Use Ability Clearing House" and Save changes:

After this change has been made for all Medicare option sets that will have claims sent via Ability, any Medicare files that were previously generated without using the "Submit to Medicare" button will need to be recreated and submitted. To confirm files were previously sent and accepted by Medicare go to the Billing>Claims Status menu and choose "Get 999".

Please contact HAS Support for assistance.
