To All Hospice Clients:
PECOS Requirement
Effective
June 3, 2024, hospices are mandated to ensure all certifying and attending physicians
are registered in the PECOS System.
Per CMS guidance, in Version 1.2.9.18, the electronic claims program has been altered to temporarily not include
Nurse Practitioners (NP) or Physician Assistants (PA) as attending
physicians because MACs will not be prepared to bypass the PECOS edit on NP/PA providers until October 7th, 2024.
To prepare for the June requirement, in
Clinical assign the corresponding Physician Type to all Nurse
Practitioners and Physician Assistants. This data will be written to
the Specialty field of the doctor record in Billing:
The Doctor List, with Extended Data selected, can be reviewed to confirm the Hospice PECOS Type flag:
The Hospice
LOC Report's PECOS failures will be included on the Exceptions Report
when the Hospice PECOS Type is not selected for the Order Doctor or Secondary Doctor..
