Dear HBS User:
The new PPS Rate table for CY 2013 is available for download using our Web Updates feature located under ‘Help’ in HBS. This is the PPS Rate table for ‘Quality Data’ only. If you are submitting claims using the ‘No Quality Data’ PPS rates please contact HAS Support for assistance. 1st Note: The User importing the PPS files should be the same User who normally installs HBS updates. 2nd Note: In previous years HBS calculated the PPS rates on the episode end date, whereas the Intermediaries calculated the rate on the episode start date. This caused RAP billed amounts to differ from the reimbursement rate, which was then adjusted correctly on the Final reimbursment. HBS now calculates the PPS rates the same as the Intermediaries. This means you can import the 2013 PPS rates now without it affecting your PPS calculation.
PPS Rates 2013: (Medicare PPS Rate Update)
PPS rates are released by CMS on a periodic basis. This file contains the PPS rates effective for the new period. This file is a text file that must be downloaded and then imported into the HBS system. · To download the latest PPS files go to Help > Web Updates · Enter your password and click on ‘Check For Updates’ · If there is a new HBS update it will begin downloading (The latest update is 1.2.6.22). It will also download any new data files as necessary. · If you are on the latest update you may get a message stating you are on the most recent program version. · Close this screen when completed and you should get a message that data files are available for import. To check to ensure your new PPS rates have been imported go to File > File Lists > PPS Rates – Click on Preview and scroll to the last page.
IMPORTANT NOTE: CBSA codes and/or wage indices may have changed for your county!! I have attached an Excel Spreadsheet that was downloaded from CMS’s Website which contains all of the new PPS Wage codes and indices for 2013. To see if yours has changed, from within HBS go to File > File Maintenance > Category – Choose ‘County’. Bring up each county and go to the rate tab. Check your CBSA code against what is in the Excel Spreadsheet to see if your Wage Index has changed.
